Nothing can be more renewing or refreshing than a relaxing weekend getaway or a week long excursion with your girlfriend. Planning these pleasure trips doesn’t have to be overwhelming and stressful. We’ll help you plan the perfect trip that will impress her and ensure that you both have an amazing time.

Today, women aren’t looking for the traditional beach vacation. They want something unique and well thought-out. They’re looking to you to think outside the box and, most importantly, they want to be surprised. So, how do you cook up the perfect getaway?

Well, let’s start with what you know. You know you want the destination to be intimate and relaxing and you know you want to impress her.

How about a weekend in wine country? There is something that is distinctly romantic when it comes to wine and there is not better intimate excursion than a getaway to a lavish wine country taking in all the culture and beauty these charming areas have to offer.

Choosing an Area

Start by doing some research. Making the decision to visit a winery is the easy part. Choosing the right one for the two of you is a bit trickier. Check the internet, grab a book on wineries or pick up a magazine. The internet is a particularly good place to get information about hotels, restaurants and activity spots in the area. With the current popularity of wine, it’s easy to find the information you need.

Wine Preference

Each person’s wine preference is mostly determined by personal preference, not by any detailed and connoisseur-type knowledge of taste, flavor and body. So, if you and your traveling companion love a particular wine, then visit that winery — you’re guaranteed to enjoy the wine tasting.

Quality and Reputation

If there is no particular wine you are just dying to taste in its native surroundings, then you can’t beat opting for a winery that is renowned for its quality wine and service.

Take the Easy Route

Try the secluded area of Paso Robles, California. This region is located just outside of Santa Barbara, a few hours southeast of Napa and a couple of hours north of the trendy, Santa Ynez Valley. It is a small community that has become a major force in the California wine industry. The wine-making tradition dates all the way back to when the Franciscan missionaries brought over the grapes in 1797.

Today this area is home to some of the most up-and-coming wineries and it is being praised as the equal to any great growing region of the world. The region has blossomed into a full-grown wine region with more than 170 wineries and 26,000 vineyard acres focusing on premium wine production including top wineries like Meridian, Justin Winery, and Tablas Creek Vineyard. The distinct microclimates and diverse soils, combined with warm days and cool nights, make growing conditions ideal for producing more than 40 wine varietals from chocolaty smelling Cabernet to the most unique Merlot, to opaque Syrah, Viognier and Roussanne, to Zinfandel, the area’s heritage wine.

Find a Place To Stay

The last piece to the puzzle, but certainly not the least important is to remember that wine tasting tends to be a day-time activity so you will have to find a place to stay the night. Choose a romantic place to stay. Most wine-making properties are located in rural areas with plenty of romantic inns and bed and breakfast accommodations nearby. Consider booking a room in one of these instead of a larger chain hotel or motel. Or if you want to make it a lavish weekend, consider the lux Bacara Resort and Spa and finish your time together with a relaxing and romantic couples massage.

A weekend or week-long vacation with your significant should be a fun time for you to bond. It shouldn’t be stressful–it’s a vacation after all. Have fun, set a plan, make her feel special, and you’ll see the rewards in your relationship long after the trip.
