With gas prices souring and inflation always on the rise, it seems like you need to be rich to hang out with your kids. A single dad and his two kids could go to a certain mouse-themed amusement park for one day and easily spend $300, and that’s if you bring your own drinks.

Here are some helpful hints for inexpensive activities you can do with your kids that are still fun, without completely breaking the bank.

Public Parks

That’s right, get those kids OUTSIDE once in a while, bring a Frisbee, grab a ball and take a walk down to the park. You can even throw a party at one of the tables with other dads you might know. If everybody brings some food, it could cost as low as $20 per parent (including a dessert).

Chuck E. Cheese

Surprisingly enough, it is still fairly cheep. You can spend $40 (w/coupon), get a pizza big enough for you and your kids, plus tokens to play arcade games. Not bad and probably a little cheaper than going to the movies. Add to that, you stay as long as you want!

Museums

Kids are suckers for museums, especially interactive museums like science museums, aquariums and children’s museums. Plus, it’s cheap. Most museums have special days with discounted entry fees. Regardless, even with two children, you’re looking at about $60 to see several of the best exhibits your city has to offer. Schedule a date with other dads to bring their kids and you’ll have somebody to talk to!

Baseball games

It’s the summer and baseball season is on. Many stadiums, like PETCO park have a family section where little ones can run around during the game. What better place to have an event? Low-cost tickets, baseball, beer and more importantly, time together!
