Single Dad Blog: Being
Honest Isn’t Wrong

being honest to your friends about serious topics … Read more.

Dear Single Dad,

I’m in my mid-thirties, a successful man despite a recent
divorce over a marriage that, looking back on it, probably never should have
happened; I live my life the way I want to live life and I can say that today I
am living happily and successfully in my little apartment looking over the
skyline of New York City. This
past weekend while I was out on a Guys’ Night Out my best friends and I, who
have been a gang since puberty, drunkenly decided to get tattoos together. So we did. Luckily enough for me, in my inebriated state I still held
onto some of my common sense and ended up waking up the next morning with the
same Virgin skin I had woken up with the previous day. Sorry to say I can’t say the same for
my friends and when they asked me how they looked – there was no hiding my
immediate reaction… They were disappointed and a little butt-hurt that I didn’t
admire "our friendship tattoos," but was I really supposed to lie to my best
buds? What was I supposed to do?

Sincerely Signed,

Nate from New York

Hangover

Dear Nate from New York,

Not to bring up the past and things that are a little
off-topic here, but perhaps this was one of the contributing factors to why
your wife is now, well, not your wife anymore. Did you always give an honest answer to your lady when she
asked you for your opinion on an outfit or her hairstyle or her latest kitchen
creation? If you were wise, you
did not. And that’s because while
yes it is the best thing to tell the truth, sometimes a little white lie to
smooth things over is actually in your best interest. Just like you don’t want your girlfriend or wife to get mad
at you, you don’t want your bros’ feelings to get hurt either, no matter how
tough of men they are.

Even though you can’t go back in time and put the eyes that
popped out of your head back in, or take back the unfiltered comments that came
flooding from your mouth when you first saw your friends’ ink, but you can kind
of repair the damage that has been done.
Next time they show skin and reveal their new ink, remark on how it’s
grown on you since the last time you saw it and move the conversation from your
friendship tattoo to how happy you are to be friends – and then take them out
for a round of beers or something!
