Now that school is out for the summer, keep the kids physically and mentally active with some of these day trips.

School’s out and summer’s here! Now that you have more time together, you need to get busy planning activities and let’s face it—being cooped up together gets old fast. Limit TV and video game time, use it as a reward and not the babysitter! Here are some fun ideas to keep your summer active and FUN!

Local Parks
Kids love to play and who doesn’t love to jump on a swing every now and again? Be a kid. Grab the skateboards, scooters, or bikes, pack a lunch and get out there! Check neighborhood schools, ask around,

Museums
Many museums offer free admission for kids one day a week. Call one up and check it out. Kids love art, natural history, train, dinosaur, space, and sports museums. Many big cities have local children museums with hands-on activities.

Zoos
Kids love animals—plain and simple. Why not take a day trip to the local zoo? Tour the habitats, learn about the animals’ countries of origin, observe their behaviors and take in a show. Zoos are fascinating and a short day trip can lead to some great conversations afterwards.

Aquariums
Love the water? Aquariums offer kids a great opportunity to see (and sometimes touch) creatures that are very different from them. It’s a wonderful learning experience that both father and child can share.

Local Library
Encourage responsibility and education—get your child a library card! Sweeten the deal with a new wallet or new purse to hold the new card. Kids feel empowered with their “own” card—let them make book choices and keep learning fun!
